Blending 1920s Tudor Character with Modern Comfort
NE 28TH ST, MEDINA
TUDOR REVIVAL RESTORATION
SYSTEM UPGRADES & PRESERVATION
Historic charm met modern luxury when Gold Remodeling took on the 1920s Tudor revival on NE 28th Street. The home had been meticulously maintained over the decades, but its current owners—both architects with an appreciation for period details—wanted to update systems and amenities without destroying the character that made them fall in love with the property in the first place. They needed a remodeling partner who understood the difference between preservation and renovation, someone who could install radiant floor heating without disturbing original tile, or update a kitchen while keeping the home’s Tudor aesthetic intact.
During our first meeting in their living room, surrounded by exposed beams and leaded glass windows, we discussed their vision: honor the past, embrace the present, and create a home that would serve their family for generations. This was exactly the kind of thoughtful, historically-sensitive project that Gold Remodeling excels at, where our 15+ years of experience working with Medina’s diverse architectural styles would be put to the test.
The NE 28th Street remodeling became a masterclass in respectful renovation. In the kitchen, we designed custom cabinetry that echoed the Tudor style—darker wood, iron hardware, and details like arched cabinet doors that complemented the home’s architecture. Modern appliances were integrated behind panels, and we sourced reproduction light fixtures that looked period-appropriate but used LED technology.
The bathrooms received complete updates with new plumbing and fixtures, but we preserved original tile borders and added reproduction pieces where needed. We upgraded all mechanical systems—HVAC, electrical, plumbing—running lines behind walls with minimal invasiveness. The real magic happened in details: refinishing original hardwood floors, repairing plaster walls using traditional techniques, and sourcing period-appropriate materials when replacements were necessary.
Our skilled craftsmen took pride in every aspect, understanding that rushing would compromise quality. After six months of careful work, the home emerged as a perfect blend of 1920s character and 2020s comfort. The owners could finally enjoy modern conveniences—heated bathroom floors, a functional kitchen, reliable systems—all while preserving the architectural integrity that made their NE 28th Street Tudor one of Medina’s hidden gems.
